For those of you not au fait with the terminology, the MOT is the UK's annual roadworthiness test which all vehicles have to undergo to be road legal. Up until recently, apart from a few exceptions [such as Agricultural vehicles and roadside rescue tow-trucks], the only vehicles which were MOT exempt were classic cars, which was defined as anything built before 1960.

From 20th May 2018 however, the rules have changed and the new definition of a 'Classic Car' is anything over 40 years old. So, all of a sudden, that brings a load more Beetles and most of the Bay Window Transporters into the 'Classic Cars' designation which means no more MOT tests.

As someone who sweats blood every 12 months trying to get the crappy rear drum brakes on my LT adjusted up enough to just about squeeze through the MOT, I am pleased for all you pre-78 owners out there...

...and also extremely jealous.

Memo to self: Buy older, next time!

If you want to read about the new MOT rules, there's a decent write-up HERE

CRAP! That means that Bay window busses are going to skyrocket in price as all the Brits start buying up what's here & shipping them over.

Eh, I don't think so. They have always bought them, including the late models. Now they can just register them easier.

No worries the pound to dollar exchange rate is nowhere near as strong as it was in 2010. It was almost 4 to 1 then. I think it's only 1.36 to 1 right now. Not enough to overcome the two to three thousand it would cost to ship. Would have to be well funded to import at today's rates. Not saying it won't happen just not like it was when they drove splitty prices through the roof.

2010 is when I sold my bus to a family in the UK, I got more than I would have trying to sell in western Pa., and they got a reasonable deal considering what they were selling for at the time.

What? Its floated between 1.35-1.55 for the last decade. Last peak before that was 2:1 at worst/best
