Found this camper the other day, not sure how to approach the owner in the 21century. I’ve always had em either given to me, or I responded to an ad.
The peeps who had sometimes in AZ recently really inspired me.

just knock on the door and ask them if they want to get rid off it and if they have the title. How hard can that be?" _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Depending where you are, don't even ask about a title Here you don't need it. I would just knock on the door, if they don't answer come back another time. Maybe leave a note with your name and number. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

well, better to do it in the 21st century rather than waiting around for the 22nd to arrive.
use the same approach as you would have in the 20th century (can you remember back that far?)
don't trespass, be polite, accept it if they say no, make a sensible (20th century pricing) offer and see where it takes you. they might not know of current 'value', might not care, who knows.
ya ain't gonna know until you try. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

Why would you not ask about a title? Getting a title when there is none is not impossible, so lack of one is not a show-stopper, but having to replace one is a PITA that could be avoided. _________________ John

Also a no-title could be a roadblock to when/if you sell it.
Vehicles are titled property and regardless if it is 'required' or not, if you don't have the title- you don't own the car. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle

First - I agree with you whole heartedly. That said I think the current thinking here expressed by some folks is just pin $20 to the front door and take it. Have a friend make a bill of sale. The people in the house will think the city took it on a county/city clean up day because the homeless were living in it. If they complain offer them $50 more. Use VT for the title, they don't care whom they give one too if they get the fees. Once you get the registration put air in the tires, pressure wash it, treat the rust with Bondo and Rustoleum, then flip it quick using Craigslist. Advertise it as "Barn Find, was running when parked, a real survivor." _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

States should not do this. They are essentially brokering stolen property and they know it. _________________ .ssS! |

VT (and NH which also doesn’t require or issue titles over a certain age) both require a VIN verification from a LEO or state-approved inspection center. The are supposed (butI have had one case where this didn’t happen out of over 30 vehicles over the years) verify not only that the VIN ,matches the BoS, but that it also comes back clean. There were states as late as the early 1970s that didn’t title new cars. VT doesn’t issue a title, they issue a registration that can then be used to title in other state. I would assume titling in the new state would have some sort of verification before issuing? Maine does, when I moved here from NH, my DD was tile-exempt in NH but not in Maine. I handed over my NH reg p, filled out the paperwork, and was refused a title a few weeks later by mail due to a claimed lien on it in NH (cleared years prior and incorrectly recorded) so I assume that one flagged as stolen would also show up? This, of course, is a very limited sample data set and may not apply in 47 other states.
Sorry for bringing back a dead thread, it’s rare I have anything worth sharing and get excited when I can:) _________________ 1979 Transporter (sold)
