My above referenced Eurovan was running great when Hurricane Katrina, in '05, flooded it out. It hasn't run or moved since. The water level reached to top of the CD player under the passenger seat, but did not get the seats wet. I have been using it for storage since, but now my neighborhood is finally coming back from the storm and real estate values don't allow a derelict camper van in one's side yard. Even if it is a VW bus. So what do I do with it?
I don't want to give it to the junk yard if there is a Eurovan enthusiast who might want it. It has some rust in all the wrong places and I have pictures I can post if anyone is really interested, and I can figure out how to do that. It's located in Pass Christian, MS. |

If you fresh water rinsed it shortly after flood it might be worth recovering, if not, I’m not even sure it’s got parts value above scrap. _________________ .ssS! |

If you do scrap it, at least pull the ECU and gauge cluster. Those can get you back a couple hundred dollars each on ebay. They would have been above the water level the van was at, and are easy to remove. It would be throwing away money to scrap those two pieces. |
I disagree, that cluster has been subjected to lots of humidity & is probably worthless, the ECU may have been under water due to the nose heavy nature of a EV if it was floating before it flooded enough to level off. I think it's time to cut your losses. Sell it as scrap or put an ad up & see what you can part off of it.
If you part it out, I would be interested in the front bumper & some nose pieces. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

The ECU is a sealed unit. If the van is able to power up and you see the needles move, then take the cluster. “Probably” and “maybe” do not equal bad. |
It is a sealed unit, but not against submersion. Definitely check them out & see what you can salvage. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
