I am planning on ordering a new top with frame from the Thing shop.
I want to make sure everything is lined up and correct before dropping $2300 Canadian. Can someone with a properly fitting top post the following measures
Windshield angle in relation to top of front door.
Top of windshield frame (not including top seal) to top of front door 90 deg to door.
Windshield frame outer dimensions
Distance from rear upper body lip to hinge point of all top cross bars
Distance from top of rear door to bottom of horizontal top bar.
Distance from top corners of windshield frame to top rear corners of body lip.
Pictures would be awesome.

Dan. Have you thought about sending a message to Ron Domeck on here? He and his brother are the resident 181 restorers. _________________ Supposed to be 77käfer, but there are no umlauts on an american keyboard

Dan, windshield frame 18 5/8 tall, top of frame 52 7/8, bottom of frame 56 7/8, windshield angle 60 degrees. Top of windshield to door at the top alignment hole the top of pinch weld on door 16 1/4, Pivet point center to back pinch weld 28 in. , Top of windshield at alignment pin hole to rear body pinch weld at corner 81 1/4 in. This was on a original paint never damaged car. Hope this helps. Looking at your picture of your car it may best to replace the windshield frame. Let me know how this works. |
