So I was lucky enough to bring this home for Fathers Day! Let the project begin.
The previous owner put a lot of work into it, when he bought it, it was a trailer with no dash or bulkhead amongst other things. Going to be fun. I plan on replacing the tires with original bias ply tires, replacing the front seat cover, then moving on to some metal work in the engine bay, installing an engine and driving it as is. |

Awesome, and congrats. What size/brand tires are those on it currently? I like their look on it! Enjoy that mamajama! _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

Nice project, but I think that you're going to need a bigger garage soon. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Awesome bus, congrats! I dig the tires that are on it, and until you fit the cut wheelwells they'll probably look better overall than stock tires.
Also, nice Vespa Rally! I've got a couple Vespas in the stable as well. Did you make it to Amerivespa earlier this month? _________________ 1973 Superbeetle: 1st car, owned since age 12. Update thread --> https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9919140#9919140

The tires are Maxxis Mudder 27x8.50r14. Im not ig on the rudder look and can't wait to start welding in the wheel arches.
Yeah, the garage looks a bit desperate, I may sell the Beetle to the right buyer.
Didn't get to Amerivespa this year, but the Rally is an early 1968 Rally 180. I did sneak this GS into the Amerivespa concourse when it was in San Antonio years back.

Unfortunately I sold the GS to buy the Beetle. You've seen my garage, I can't get to the doors to try fitting the Vespa, lol. One step at a time.
Tires and some sheet metal are on order. My WW list is getting bigger. |

Wow, thanks for sharing, thats really nice!
I started poking around for spot welds to replace the engine shelf.
Is it better to replace the whole shelf piece or just weld in what I need?
The shelf does seem to be sandwiched in-between several other door panels. It seems easier to trim and weld in only what I need.

My philosophy is to use a much original.metal as possible that's way you are, less, likely to screw something up majorly. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Thanks for the tip, I'll patch only what I need to.
What do you do when waiting on parts? Hammer and Dolly work of course. The taillight edge turned out well and it was creased at the bottom by the the rust which prevented everything from coming back in line. All in all, it turned out well. I wish everything I hammered on did that. The wrinkling wraps around the corner and while its not completely hammered out, it's 90% there and much better than it was.

Started cutting the apron mounts back to clean metal.
Trimming the new piece to fit.
Tires are mounted and installed, looking nice.
The solid transmission mounts have been swapped out with WW bushings and a carrier.

A little bit of advice there with the mount while you have everything exposed? The front transmission mount from WW (and everywhere else) is garbage. Consider adding the mid mount before it brakes. It’s a pain in the *** to replace the stock one when everything is together.
