Hello, this is my first post, and unfortunately it is not what I would have thought it to be...
I have searched high and low for my first bus. I finally found one I fell in love with that was 1000 miles away. I paid for it, arranged for transportation, and unfortunately received a call today that the truck it was on rolled this morning! I am waiting for the transport company's insurance adjusters to call me and go from there. But I am hoping to find a VW restoration specialist near the tow yard it currently sits to have it repaired right, before having it loaded back up and shipped out to me. My fear is that this adjuster is going to be completely misguided on what this repair will fully entail.
Any help is greatly appreciated. It is currently in Vandalia, IL, just east of St. Louis.

That sucks. Sorry to hear about what happened. I love lime green buses. Hopefully they can at least get your money back.

WOW, that really does suck..
but your love while real was new and young..
but you didn't even get to take it for a spin or play under the skirt.
take the cash settlement and find a new young love..
if they try to lowball you on the $$ give them the sale receipt (copy of) and tell them it could have been a Lincoln SUV or such..
the repair costs thru a reputable shop will likely be more than the value and will total that bus out.
walk away, lick your wounds and find another to love. _________________

I hope the driver was ok in the accident.
That bus is done.
Here is what I would try to do:
-DO NOT AGREE TO THEIR FIRST SETTLEMENT OFFER. It will be lowball for sure.
-do your homework and negotiate a good insurance settlement price, full value, what you paid, transport cost, any other expenses incurred. get all that stuff covered. document everything.
-if you have the room to store it, find out if they will offer a buy-back price and get the bus delivered to your house. be sure that the delivery price is included in the settlement, not an extra cost to you. it would make a good parts bus for your next one, or to part out. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

Welcome to TheSamba! Wish it was under better circumstances!
Do a search in the VW business section.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/shops/
You may want to consider having it delivered to a shop in your area. So you can keep tabs on the repairs and do a final inspection before you pay them.
There insurance may want to total it. Use car evaluation sites and ads to determine the replacement cost. Remember it's the Adjusters job to give as little as posible, it is your job to get as much as posible.
Good luck

your first comparable sale is what you paid for the bus with all the costs. Really sorry. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

So sorry to hear about the loss of a beautiful Riviera. I see it has (had?) Missouri plates. The one I bought was from Missouri, too. And while mine was late en route being delivered to me, one fellow Sambateer suggested (tongue-in-cheek) maybe it had fallen off the truck, and I would be saved from the burden of bus ownership. Funny guy, he was. I was relieved when it arrived safe.
You deserve every penny you have invested into the bus, and don't let the insurance company settle for any less. And then unfortunately you have the task of finding a replacement. I know a guy in Connecticut who has one...that just needs a little more work than the one in your picture. _________________ -Kent-

Would it be worth to track what insurance company that goes to, and snag it for parts? There is so much about that bus that should never go to waste. I know I could use a few things off that beautiful bus.
On the driver side middle window. Thats a vent wing AND slider? Or amI seeing that wrong/never noticed one before? _________________ Few will understand the passion and majesty, among the nuts and grease.

I wonder if That was the fuster cluck on the TriState near mile 312?
I got stuck in the snarl and had to listen to united suck up and give me a hotel near ORD due to crew timeout, when I wasn’t going to make it anyhow. _________________ .ssS! |

Jeaston13,
I'm in Illinois - about 2.5 hrs from where your bus is (Champaign). I don't know of anyone around here I would trust to fix both the body and the mechanicals, but I'm willing to help out if there is something to be done.
Sorry for the loss - Unfortunately, I know what its like to loose one. But thankfully I also know the joy of rebuilding it.

And the vultures are circling...
It is true, though, that this is now an excellent parts bus. I hope they will let you buy it back after totalling it. There are thousands of dollars in good parts there. _________________ John

It’s like a thousand tiny voices cried out in pain. Man, I actually feel some pain looking at that photo. Like a ping of fear of heights or some kind of sympathetic response.
That’s some tough luck right there and surly you’ll be dealing with that complicated mess for some time to come, but nevertheless, I still encourage you to continue in your quest for a bus, the joy of ownership is real and worth it.
Think how you’d feel if you were the transport driver. |

Abscate -
I sure as hell don't know nothin' about molecular spectroscopy, but I got beds and beer (well - I got beer as long as Robbie isn't here). Plus I know all the good places to go hang out away from the scramble of the University.
Come on back !
