|
|
After 6 years running Pokey with the original FI and the 009 Dizzy it came with I decided to install a SVDA after all the reading I have done. I already had the Petronix in the 009 but just transferred it to the SVDA dizzy.
After setting it up to 7.5BTDC with the hose off and plugged. It ran ok, not great but ok. I would say equivalent to the 009 but with better acceleration early mid rpm. I am sensing a lower than usual acceleration at top rpm say 2500-3200 rpm. (no rpm gauge).
I also sensed a harder time getting to top speed. say 55mph.
Total driving time approx 1.5 hours on new dizzy.
Is it me (might be) or is there more i can do to fine tune this thing? _________________ 1972 VW Westy (Hit by dumptruck)

Who's SVDA?
Original Bosch German, Bosch Mexican or aftermarket Chinese?
Does the engine still have the original FI? If so you would be better with the correct original distributor.
I have a restored Bosch 205S which is originally came on a FI Bus.
SVDA is a generic term and the aftermarket ones are not specific for a FI Type 4 engines. One size does not fit all.

Bought from CIP1 same one as on my 69 beetle. Good reviews but made in China. _________________ 1972 VW Westy (Hit by dumptruck)

It's a generic made for a Beetle with a 1600 and a 34PICT-3 carb.
"(Please note: SVDA distributors work perfectly with 34-Pict Carburetors, but will not work properly with 30/31 Pict Carburetor)"
And you installed it on a Type 4 engine with fuel injection.
Just because it "fits", doesn't mean its the correct one. _________________ Glenn

Or buy the correct one. The Pertronix, cap and rotor should fit. _________________ Glenn

Try setting the engine to 28° maximum advance with the hose off- make a note of the idle timing then so you can static time it There in the future.

I wouldn't run a Chinese copy of an 034 (which is for a light bug, Ghia or Thing) in a bus. The advance and ramp is wrong for a heavy bay bus. Is your bus an automatic or manual transmission.
I also have a correct, restored German Bosch distributor for your FI bus. As Glenn states, there are many different distributors for Bay buses based on what year, transmission, FI, dual carbs, etc. You really have to match the correct distributor to the application.
You'd be better off returning that Chinese bug distributor for a restored original German Bosch unit that was designed for your application. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I’m pretty sure there’s a peteronix for mechanical advance and SVDA. Like they’re not interchangeable |

I found an old 205 P in my stash and rebuilt it. Installed it and wow. Goes like a Jackrabbit. Nice to have the original dizzy that should be in the bus. _________________ 1972 VW Westy (Hit by dumptruck)
