The ones on my '63, which are from WW, look to be 5mm.
They are white, not translucent, but not the weird dingy white of the CIP1 ones.
I believe they were white originally but I've only seen original ones that were yellowed from age.
White WW ones on my old '64:

If you have access to Ty-Raps there is one that has the perfect size. Not only are the spacers there for distance they seal out water from getting in the threads.

Thanks!
I will make some for now and keep an eye out for some nice white ones. Actually white PVC tube may be just right... |
I think that's what they are doing
I remember them sending me ones that were a weird size once and they said they would cut me some new ones. _________________ How to Post Photos

I'm not sure about the headlight spacers, but the windshield wiper bearing caps were up to '60/ maybe early '61-ish. _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

I meant more towards a part that shifted from metal to plastic than a specific composition haha, still good reminder.
If there were metal headlight spacers, which I've never heard of them but still, please include some more details - part number, Progressive Refinement/Parts Manual, etc. references. A softer material like plastic just makes more sense than tightening something metallic directly to the body... _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

Yes the early ones are steel/aluminium,and i think pre '60...possible change around the same time as the wiper ferrules etc.
Replacements have the nylon spacer but originally they were steel/aluminium.

From the BD headlight thread. Page 5 has the best info so far. Super early seems to have used steel (which is news to me) then switched to steel or aluminum until '61 or so from the very, very brief re-researching I just did.
I feel vindicated!
