Good afternoon everyone,
Is there any advantage to changing from the standard wheel bolts to lug nuts and studs like on a 356?
Thanks |

lug bolts on a Bug are just part of ownership... one gets used to it, in time... I had an old Mopar with lug bolts once, but they engineered a post on the hub and a hole in the wheel to hang the wheel on, to aid in putting the bolts on... 356 style is awesome-easy. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Modern Porsche equips their cars with an alignment pin/tool. It simply threads into the rotor, you hang the wheel, install several lug bolts, remove the alignment pin, install last lug bolt.

Studs can help prolong the life of the threaded holes in hard-to-find brake drums.
Cast iron can be unforgiving if a bolt is cross-threaded.
I have never personally ruined a drum, but I have bought more than one VW that was missing a lug bolt . . . because the hole was stripped! _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador! |

... interesting, I have had over 100 VWs and never experienced a stripped lug hole... guess if it happened though, i'd just run 4, out of five lugs.... _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Most of the stud kits seem to be made out of cold rolled cat turds, be sure to go outside of the VW aftermarket to buy quality wheel studs. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
