Got a problem on my 73 beetle with not getting fuel to carb. I just put a new fuel pump on it today and still not getting fuel to carb. i can put gas in the carb and it will run find until the little bit of gas runs out. Could someone tell me what else i could look for to take care of the problem. Thanks |

Welcome,
Did it run before?, is this a recent issue? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

1) make sure the gas tank has gas in it.
2) make sure you put the input/output lines on the right ports on the pump.
3) remove the pump and make sure the push rod moves up and down like it's supposed to when the engine is turned, measure min. height of the pushrod above the flange and max height, report back those numbers.
4) make sure fuel is getting to the pump - it's gravity feed from the tank. Pull the inlet hose off the fuel pump and fuel should come running out. If not, clamp the hose off, elevate the nose of the car, and try again. If you get no fuel at that hose with the nose elevated, either there is a blockage in the fuel line or you are out of gas. If the car is parked on a hill nose down you may not get the pump to prime until you get the front of the car level with or at a higher level than the rear.
5) keep your old fuel pump because it's probably better quality than the one you just put on. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

Just a thought...my 72 SB had been sitting for 15 years...loaded with packrats! When my son built the new engine, we tried to get it started but could not get anything through the existing fuel line! We put disconnected the fuel line under the tank and tried to blow compressed air through the line! NOTHING! So, we put in a new steel fuel line in the car. _________________ 72 VW Super Beetle |
