On a related note to my earlier query about the oil pressure sender, would this be where a coolant temp sender would go?
I didn't examine it too closely, as clumsy as I seem to be today. Would it just be the same screw fitting inside or do I need some sort of adapter? _________________ Currently -> Frida: 87 Tizian Red (mostly) Vanagon GL Westfalia w/ 2.0L ABA conversion

A temp sensor could go in that hole where the bung is. Just need an appropriately sized o ring or even re use whats on the bung.
Is that not a temp sensor as shown? Or is that for the AC? _________________ 1981 Westy DIY 15º ABA

On my Tiico engine the temperature sensor in your picture is actually two temperature sensors. One that goes to the ecu. The other one goes to the temperature gauge. In my case the ecu temperature sensor is used and I have a separate temperature sensor on the water outlet going to the heater core where it was when it was a diesel van. Another temperature sensor could go in that extra hole in your picture as well. John |

I assumed that was for the existing temp gauge.

Hmm, well that's a project for another day, once I get this oil pressure gauge sorted.
Thanks for the replies. Slowly getting to understand how this thing works…🧐 _________________ Currently -> Frida: 87 Tizian Red (mostly) Vanagon GL Westfalia w/ 2.0L ABA conversion

What exactly are you doing or plan to do?
This may have been what John already pointed out, but that 4 wire sensor housing likely contains the temp sensor for ECU and temp sensor for gauge at dash. In that image it appears there's two different ground wires. So one for each sensor.

On my ALH install I just used the exact same temp sender as was on my WBX. It fit into an opening much like that one. _________________ Casey--

Eventually, to add a temp gauge, rather than relying on the stock one. Though, to be fair, the stock one hasn't let me down. If it showed pressure (or the lack of it) that would be useful.

So a VDO sender would fit there? Is there a threaded receiver there or do I need something else? _________________ Currently -> Frida: 87 Tizian Red (mostly) Vanagon GL Westfalia w/ 2.0L ABA conversion

The 1.9 WBX and Syncros used the threaded senders, but the 2WD 2.1s had the o-ring type senders. I think you might get more value from an oil temp gauge to augment the stock coolant gauge. _________________ Casey--

I have been pondering that. Now that I have a functioning cooling system (or more than I had) I'm not as worried about coolant temps. Once I get this sorted, I'll consider my next move. _________________ Currently -> Frida: 87 Tizian Red (mostly) Vanagon GL Westfalia w/ 2.0L ABA conversion

Looks like that's what's in there. A little latch and plug that twists out. There is the one in the picture next to the existing sender and another at the block connected to the pressure tank. Lots of options to gauge these things up. _________________ Currently -> Frida: 87 Tizian Red (mostly) Vanagon GL Westfalia w/ 2.0L ABA conversion

Pics of my Tiico/Audi 3A: the sensor and o ring simply plug in and clip.
