I just bought a VW Thing from Canada and intend to import it into the US. For California, I have to show EPA certification but wanted to know if Canadian and US 1974 Things are the same. If so, is there a site somewhere to reference this?
Has anyone else tried importing one into California?
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks! |

Depends where it was made, Mexico or Germany and what year. Should be a metal plate in the trunk area.

It looks like it was built in Mexico in 1974
Thanks again for the help! |

That should not be a problem. |

Any suggestions on how I can find something I can show to the DMV to verify they are truly the same spec between the US and Canadian version? |

I think I was too worried about the US Border Patrol. I was in and out within 20 minutes and on my way. I spent quite a bit of time making sure I had all the paperwork done and talked to the office before I arrived to confirm everything which helped tremendously.
The next challenge is going to be the California registration but at least half the journey is done. |

From what my son says about California DMV, you may be less than half done. |
