Checked the valves today, didn’t have to adjust one. All were spot on! I pulled exhaust and resealed it. The backfiring was caused by a leak at the heat exchangers. I cleaned everything up and used red RTV to reseal every joint. I also made a template for the front mud flaps, cut them out and installed them. And...wifey drove the bus for the first time, she was super proud.

Oh shit, thanks for pointing that out. I had forgotten about vacuum balance for a minute. I was gonna adjust my brakes this week because my bus pulls a little when braking, but I should probably check my vacuum balance first.

Been pushing oil past the pully seal. Turns out the new CB cases don’t have galley restricter to the pully. JAD pulled the plug and machined a custom restrictor.

Raised the rear another 3*. Rides way better now, personally I think it looks better and it should handle the weight of our vending gear better too.

Just read your build thread start to finish and really enjoyed how you brought this back leaving the patina! Even better if the wife enjoys driving it too!

I took the spice rack off the sink cabinet and installed it on the back of the passenger seat bulkhead. It flip up table was missing, but it still had the top and the hinges. The top was pretty beat up so I made a new top and table out of hard wood from HD. The locking rod was part of a trade I made with MTNbus last year. I stained it and polyurethaned it, looks pretty good.

I also got my CB Equalizer Pulley in the mail. I just need to have it installed, Zoom Zoom.

In your mudflap picture, it shows rusty holes that would allow water to go into the rockers and other spots every time it rains and you drive. I would twist your arm to cover those holes, even temporarily, to keep more water from getting in there. You could clean off the undercoating, and even carefully applied aluminium tape could help until you can fix it right. If you don't get much summer rain where you are, it may not matter as much, but water intrusion where it shouldn't be is never beneficial. Or, a temporary fiberglass repair that you can grind off later when you get to the metal work.

Tbob. No rockers, no problems

Manfred58sc. Thanks, I’m doing little things to the bus these days got get it dialed while things are crazy in the world. Think I’m gonna work on the paint, work on the factory parcel shelf I have, among some other small projects.
We went camping last weekend, pics in my adventure thread. It was great to be out with the family in the forest.

After taking apart one of the OG parcel trays, I decided was no way I was gonna be able to successfully get them back together. They have been just sitting in the garage as I mulled over what to do. I went back and forth about buy one from BD or giving the OG one a go. I decided to take them to the neighborhood upholster, cause oddly enough there is an upholster in my neighborhood. He didn’t have the same mesh, so we looked at what he had and I decided to go with a mesh like material that was tan to match the front seats. Picked them up today and he only charged me $40. I think they came out pretty good and can’t wait to install them.

Way to save a set for another day! Those turned out nice.

Simular modern mesh material can be found a Michaels in several colors. You can also buy a bag made for wet gear, like snorkel equipment, carpet cleaners hose and the like.

but all you're doing is shoveling shit into the sliding door track. those are a REAL bitch to make right.

the top "slot" in your mud flap pic is the track, the lower is the rocker cavity if you will.

good to see you back posting Cool

Thanks Skills. I’m not concerned about shit getting into the rocker area, but the slider track is an issue. I’ll come up with something, actually think I have an idea already.

Had a fun family adventure to the VW shop today. We cruised out in the bus and I had the CB Equalizer Pulley installed. We also inspected the ball joints for play and greased them. The joints were within spec and there is only one torn boot. We are gonna replace the torn boot and install 6mm grease fittings in place of the plastic plugs. After completing the work I instantly noticed the difference with the pulley. Engine kept it speed more, there was less bogging on climbs and no oil spray! The steering was also noticeably smoother. Can’t wait to get the boot replaced, new tire rods and drag link installed! It was a great morning, I always love spending time at JAD Machine!

Took a trip to the local Ace Hardware last night and picked up 6mm x 1.0 grease zerks for the ball joints, some water proof insulation and some metal zip ties for the heater channel. This morning I installed all that stuff.

Think I’m gonna put a few more ties on it then paint it with some undercoating. Samba member MTNbus turned me into this material.
