I am looking for assistance in determining the worth or demand of my father's old Allstate trailer. It has been stored in the gargage for years and I was honestly considering dumping it for scrap metal. The only site I can even find any discussion regarding these old trailers is this one, so I thought I would give it a try and ask for help. Serial # 5576, Model # 287.61501. I am in Orange County, CA. Thank you.

Dude that is a nice trailer... quite good condition too. My first guess would be a 500 dollar bill as they are unobtainium. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

I agree, with the prices posted above. I just sold the same trailer, minus the shell, and in the single wheel version, a couple of months ago, and got $400 for it. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

I really appreciate the input. I have had no idea what to do with this trailer so I have to tell you I intially was calling to have someone just take it for scrap. The license plate is no longer active with the DMV. In order to sell it, do I have to register this? Any idea how much it would cost to register? Am I able to sell this as is? I can't imagine it is legally able to be towed like this. |

You guys have been amazing and a real help. This middle aged, computer illiterate woman thanks you. Everett, I am really impressed with you site. The notification of posts, your e-mail telling me how to navigate you site...and all for free. Very sweet. |

Hi Vivigrec,
Thanks for selling me your Dad's old trailer. I am really happy to have it. Thanks also for sharing the neat old photo of the trailer in use.
I will use this thread to show progress on the refurbishment. I plan to keep the trailer in its original paint, to fix the lights, pop out some dents and to get it back on the road.
Thanks again,
P.S. I found replacement suction cup feet for the rack. It looks like an exact replacement. |

Hi Jeff,
i cannot tell you how happy this makes me. I love the fact of someone cherishing and enjoying what was special to my father. I can't wait to see it when you are done making it road ready. Thanks again! |

Congrats on your purchase !
I have two of these Allstate trailers and they are Awesome !
purchased my second one last year and I'm in the process of restoring it.
Question ? ... I noticed the wheels are hub mount, couldn't quite tell from photo, as both mine are 4 lug, yours must be an early model.
Here's mine when purchased ...
Sears Logo in the circle on side of trailer ...
Here's a 1970 Sears Catalog Page showing the Allstate Trailer.

My new trailer has hub mount wheels. I am not sure of the year but it was last registered in 1968 and I think it has tags back to 1966.
I don't have a spare or a location to mount it that I can see. Glenn A has his super cool restored trailer with a hub mount spare on the tongue. Here is Glenn's spare mounted:

OK, spent some time on the trailer this weekend. List of accomplishments:
1. Cleaning and paint polish.
2. Tore out old wiring and rewired under the frame.
3. Straightened out the old taillight brackets and rebuilt one of the sockets. Painted assemblies and reinstalled.
4. Reinstalled the fenders that I had removed for the trip home.
5. Spent about 2 hours removing tape goo on the tongue and tailgate.
6. Mounted the OG license plate. It looks like it was last registered in 1968, with the first registration in 1966.
7. Bumped out some of the cover dings...more to do.
8. Reversed the top fasteners that were in upside down.
9. Unstuck the hitch assembly.
10. Got the top catch mechanisms straight and working properly.
Next weekend, I am rehabbing the roof rack. It turns out the rack is an original Allstate accessory made with oak slats. With the 4 slats this is actually two racks. After that I will tackle to tires and bearings.

Has anyone found documentation on these trailers detailing which year the model and possibly the serial number were released? I've recently bought one which I pick up mid-month which has been off the road for a very long time and at the moment all I have is a model and serial number of 28761501. Serial # 4916. Any info is appreciated. _________________ MonT3

Does anyone have documentation about the accessory roof rack for these trailers. I remember seeing an old ad that shows the oak slat racks. I have put the trailer for sale and want to be sure I have the facts straight.
Thanks, |
