Hey everyone! Stacy and I are excited to announce a new addition to our family. We recently acquired a 1959 Single Cab from a local VW builder here in the PNW. The truck is in great shape and has a ton of new metal in it. All major rust was removed/repaired and then the truck was sprayed with Primer/Sealer in a two-tone color scheme.
It's on air-ride (Air Kewld shocks in the front and custom in the rear...all bolt in) and has a fresh 1776cc engine with dual 40mm Delorto's and an A-1 header. Type 1 transmission swap. Safari windows in the front and rear and a nice bluetooth stereo system as well. Projector LED headlights and LED taillights.
It's a great starting point for what we want to do in terms of customization. This winter we'll start the work and are planning to do disc brakes all the way around, CRC Type 2 Shifter (when it releases), Deluxe Trim, LineX bed, and then spray it two-tone Turkis Green/Creme.
For now though, we are going to rock it as-is and enjoy driving it.

I have a black anodized aluminum set of those arms. There is a machine shop about 4 miles from me that makes them.
Love the truck. SO GREAT to see these truck bumping down the road. Long live the SC!! |

That thing is sweet. Don't paint it, just drive and enjoy. The painting and body work process is really long and expensive for what in the end rarely adds to the enjoyment of the vehicle. Don't bother with paint. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

Hey guys! First issue cropped up today. Drove to work and as I pulled into my spot, I think the clutch cable snapped. This SC has a Type 1 Bug transmission swap. Any idea what cable I should use or am I pretty much down to just pulling it and measuring?
Thanks! _________________ Dave

No e-brake right now. Just toss it in 1st gear and drop it on the ground. Also, no parking on steep hills. LOL. I'm going to put an e-brake in when I do the disc conversion. Possibly an electric line lock. Not sure though. _________________ Dave

Thank you, Adam!!! Got one ordered from CIP1 and it should be here tomorrow. She'll be back on the road by the end of the weekend. Again, thank you so much!!! _________________ Dave

Turns out that it's not the clutch cable. Need to pull the engine tomorrow and see what's going on. Could be a throw-out bearing or possibly the fork. Don't think it's the clutch or pressure plate, but we'll see once I get it apart. _________________ Dave

Pulled the engine this weekend and it was the clutch release fork. One of the arms broke so that's the culprit. Ordered an HD one from Wolfsburg West along with the bushing kit. Should be a pretty easy fix. We're taking this opportunity so re-build the 40mm Dellorto's and re-wire some stuff in the engine bay. It means the Single Cab will miss the Vintage Meet show this weekend in Shoreline but we'll have the Squareback out there instead. At least it's not in need of a new clutch. _________________ Dave

Been making some progress on the SC the past week or so. Got the 40mm Dellorto's rebuilt. Engine is basically ready to go back in the truck. Just need to find a couple hours of free time.
Got the new clutch fork in and also put in a new Sachs throwout bearing since I'm in there. Did a new boot for the left swing axle as the one on there was ripped. Also installed a "Six Shooter" clutch cable adjustment nut from AirKewld. I need to clean the engine bay as well. It's a bit gross at the moment. Oh! And I've got a BlazeCut system on order. Looking forward to installing that. Good piece of mind.
Trying to sort out the birds-nest wiring in the cab. It's mostly for the stereo but there is some wiring for the air-ride and the lighting as well. Just need to organize it a bit so it looks better. Hoping to get a little storage back as well once the wiring is all cleaned up.
Also got some door parts on order to fix some issues with the sliders and I installed the accelerator pedal mod from Rusties. Feels real good now. Can't wait to see how it is once the engine is back in. Hoping to have her back on the road yet this week. Fingers crossed! _________________ Dave

I'd recommend this to anyone. So much easier to adjust. I'll be picking one up for my Squareback as well very soon. Many thanks! _________________ Dave

Engine is back in the truck! Managed to fix the wiring for the lights in the engine bay, which was actually really useful when putting the engine back in. Having some nice bright LED lighting in there made the install a lot easier to do. Also managed to get the clutch pedal free play adjusted just right. Need to re-install the valence and the bumper tonight and then clean up the wiring in the cab and she should be ready to run down the road.
