1977 Bus 2.0FI - Lately my oil light has been coming on randomly and I don't care for it. It usually happens after it warms up and I head out to work. About a mile down the road, it comes on at the second stop I make. Then its usually normal the rest of the drive. I took it in to my local aircooled VW service shop and they checked the oil pressure and its fine. I have an engine saver dipstick and I feel like I never saw the oil light on until I started using that dipstick, other than on start-up.
A couple notes
I've owned this bus since 2007 and have been driving it at least once a week for the last few months - the most its moved since I got it. It sat off and on for several years previously.
I have a print of the oil pressure numbers at home, but not in front of me at this moment.
Any info helps _________________ 1977 Bay 2.0 FI

Change the lamp in the dash from a 1.2w to 1.5 or 2. |

Do the 2L engines have a pressure relief valve like the 1600s? Maybe it's sticking from a burr or debris? |

Unhook it from the dipstick and see if that stops the light from coming one. |

I'm going to assume that 'second stop' is at a downhill slope/grade & the oil is pooling near the 1/3 cylinders. Just some air. Happens. |

As long as it goes out on light revolutions, ignore it, just like the manual says. _________________ .ssS! |

The "save my bug" dipstick starts the oil light blinking if you put it in a bus, and get the bus properly warmed up, not even hot for a bus.
Because a bus runs hotter than a bug. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

At least on a Type 1 it’s not in the cooling airflow inlet AND passing through the fan shroud.
Heat soak city.

I used to figure that any add-ons being sold for VW's by JC Whitney were very apt to be bogus, while today this same business has been taken over by others like CIP. Glad that when I first got into VWs, the recommended oil for that car was a straight 30wt for warm season use with a note about not using multi-grades, which was the same advice given in a class on lubrication that I had taken, which was taught by a former EXXON lubrication engineer who had helped develop EXXON's late 1960's multigrades. I figure that advice helped save me from ever going down the VW engine oil rabbit hole that so many still willfully crawl into.
