I've collected a number of vintage Fram full flow filters over the years, and I'm wondering which ones I should use. I would like to use one of my smaller ones for aesthetic reasons, but I suspect that a larger filter will reduce the chance of a big pressure drop. I've looked for data from the various filter companies, but I haven't found any. Comments anyone?

Cheers,

Paul

If I remember correctly, they are all bypass filters and only filter some of the oil eventually cleaning all the oil. These are different from full flow that all the oil passes through.

These are full flow, not bypass filters. The most common is the FH6-PL which was used by Denzel.

Don't then get oil from a fitting at the oil pressure switch and return it through a hollow stud?

Here's a typical setup.

Oil is pumped in from a special oil pump cover and returned where where the oil pressure sensor screws into the case.

Got it... I stand corrected.

This is what I was thinking.

Pressure in a sealed system is equal in all directions regardless of size. There will only be a difference at startup but once it is up to pressure the size of the filter will have no effect on engine oil pressure.
