Evaporative Emissions Fuel/Gas Tank Vent methods

Can someone point me to a diagram of all the vent lines off the tank? 1974 Super beetle.

To solve a fuel smell issue while parked in the garage, Except the carbs, I'm replacing every fuel related component I can, (Including a new gas tank)

Basically of all the T connections, weird fuel separator thingie, small outlets on the tank (I think there are 3 small ones+ 1 medium filler return) What should I hook up and route? What should I cap off?

If I'm running with NO charcoal canister, what is a workable vent method?

myself, I would recommend finding a good used charcoal canister.

I just went through all of my lines using the diagram below , also rebuilt the charcoal canister and this solved my fuel smell problem.

also, concerning the clear white plastic separator under the front hood, make sure to blow it out with air to remove any fuel from it and make sure it is not leaking.

make sure the lines going back to the canister are not clogged, these are the clear lines running along the right side floorpan to right rear fender.

If you remove the charcoal canister you will have a very difficult time of eliminating the fuel smell in your garage. Older systems without the canister simply vent to atmosphere.

The original tank is much better than any replacement on the market today. If your tank is not leaking you should keep it.

Your best option is to replace all of the fuel and vent hoses, the tank sender seal and the filler hose seals. It is quite easy, though time consuming.

Hi Early, can you or anyone else tell me the size of the vent hose in figure 28 # 3 in the picture you've provided?? i have to replace that line as it's soaked with gas and stinks. Thanks!
