A question was aksed on the Split Bus forum about a possible dash lighter (it wasn't), and I wandered through 12 pages of photos to try and find what various models looked like. Obviously not complete - lighter fans, feel free to fill in and correct!

The lighter you have for the Thing is not correct, The '73 model came with a power outlet and the '74 model did not come with one from the factory. If you wanted a lighter for a '74 model it would have been a dealer option that did not match the rest of the knobs.

Thanks Al; looking at the original post, the owner took it out of a Thing and was asking if it was unusual.

To label a few of these I used what I could find, either a comment or what forum it was in... so all corrections are most welcome!

Here's another minutia for you.

Speaking for the Casco (and I'll bet any of the others) the 6 volt lighter won't go into a 12 volt receptacle. The diameter is slightly bigger. A 12 volt lighter will go into a 6 volt receptacle but won't click stay in on its own.

Curious if that one is 6 volt.

I had one like your first photo, NOS in the box, got stolen from my swap space in the early 90's VW Classic, or maybe it was the Jamboree
