Simple electrical questions...

So I'm wiring my car for my fuel pump and tachometer today and have no power...to give some background I have the motor out so no wore from starter to alternator or coil. Is this normal? I'm testing circuits to see where to wore in the accessories, kind of difficult without power though. Battery is good, good ground strap at the trans. Not sure what it could be unless it's just the motor being out. It was my driver two weeks ago...

The power goes from the battery to starter, then to ALT/GEN, then goes through the body harness to the front behind dash.

With the motor out, you have to temporarily connect the wire coming from the starter to the one from harness that connects to the ALT B+ to get power to the front.
