Is there any real value to ventilating at the valve covers rather than the filler tube?

The 2180 in my Baja has the breather box that ventilates the valve covers and drains into the filler tube. I'd rather not do that on my 1835 if I don't have to. The factory didn't do that, so I'm asking...

The factory had thick cylinder walls and lower RPMs .

Factory also had smaller bore and stroke, possibly less compression, the more air you move (crankcase interior) the more that has to be evacuated, preferably exchanged with clean dry air.

Actually Porsche/VW did put ventilation in the heads on the 2.0 l engine.
I think ventilation makes perfect sense on larger engines.

Here's a thread on venting valve covers. Lots of opinions, not sure I agree with all of them.

The link to Muffler Mike's page talks about the oil level in the valve covers is worth checking out. It will give you some thought on how much oil ends up in the valve covers and the effect of venting the left side valve cover if you plan to rev your engine up around 5000rpm.

(Look about 1/3 down the page)
