Hello, my sons 2004 MK4 GOLF 2.0 Auto dies in hot weather. Car does not throw any codes. Can happen while accelerating or driving 75MPH on the highways. Engine simply dies and after waiting for 2 to 5 minutes it usually fires right back up without issue. Depending on how hot it is outside, may or may not comeback. 1st time it happened last summer in Arizona as I was driving to San Diego. Zero issues in San Diego with cooler temperatures but as soon as I got back to Arizona, car started dying every 10 minutes or so. 90 deg in San Diego. 110deg in AZ. Changed out the Crank Position Sensor with Chinese one and it worked fine for the remainder of the summer and throughout the winter. Well, now in the peak of summer here in AZ the Golf is doing the same thing. Replaced Crank Position Sensor again with one made in EU and all seemed well for last two months but yesterday it happened again.
Since the car never throws a code and the engine simply dies, thought it was the CPS. Is there something else I should be looking at as possible suspect???
The car I purchased for my son is a one owner car that only had 27K miles when we purchased it. It currently only has 46K miles. I also replaced coolent Temp Sensor from original Black to Green sensor when it did throw a code. Other then new battery and Rims and Tires the car is all original. Any ideas on what is being impacted by Hot Weather to cause motor to die would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Started playing with VW's back in 1985 but took an 8 year "break" from the hobby. get a REAL VW sensor in there. seriously....even if that isn't the issue, European cars HATE HATE HATE aftermarket electronics.
you could have a fuel pump starting to go as well.
I have had a/c compressors lock and stop the car dead in it's tracks. rare, but I have seen a few over the years _________________

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public. |

Thanks..... the 2nd Crank Position Sensor I installed 4 moths ago, that also worked fine till recently was Manufactured by Bosch in EU so currently it does not have the cheaper Chinese Sensor. I also suspected the Fuel Pump but can hear a hum after it dies.
Have had zero issues with AC system on he vehicle and yes, it get used constantly here in AZ _________________ Started playing with VW's back in 1985 but took an 8 year "break" from the hobby. Sickness took over and I just purchased a clean low mileage Mexi Beetle with AC and Fuel Injection. |

Does the tach show RPM when cranking? If not, CPS; if Yes, not CPS. |
