I like the '58 and '59, U.S. market or otherwise. In European markets they still had semaphores for those years.

I voted 1960 because that's the year I was born, and it would be neat to own a Bug the same age as I am.
But I was raised on Bugs in the 70's, and the earlier swing axle cars where not as desirable to me.
I actually prefer the Fat Chicks Shocked , Type 1 69-72, Type 3 70-73, 68 & up Type 2, 73-74 Things.
Any 6 volt I've own would be converted to 12 volt, that's just easier to live with.

I voted for 64 because mine is a 64 so am I! like the smaller windows in the 64 earlier models this is my first non fat chick after many fat chicks and by far my favorite, one drive and I knew it what I was missing with a fat chick Laughing

." what is your favorite year 6 volt beetle and why?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is your introduction to your thread. It says nothing about U.S.A. only. To learn more about VW's I suggest that you take some time and read some books on the subject.

Chuck, Can you suggest an informative read - always appreciate an expert's opinion.

I like the '51's because it's got all the things of the early splits but also has the Wolfsburg crest, and crotch coolers. '51's and early '52's are the epitome of splits then. Except '51's are still one year older. Wink

i'm with you. The intro of the crest was an achievement along with CCs.
When I had my '50, I made room for a Wolfsburg crest, because I liked it so...have also put them on a later than '63s - gotta' have a crest
Really happy 'bout your vote - Bwaz in Canada likes the '52 Zwiters - word.

... yes, 1966 sold over a million units (worldwide) and is the last year for the antiquated 6 volt... that's a popular one.
... bought this '66 way-out on the panhandle in Slapout, western Oklahoma, 8 hours away - loved the patina

... yes, 1966 was the first year to sell over a million units and is the last year for the antiquated 6 volt... in the USA anyway.

More than one million VWs were built in 1965 world wide, a year when a price drop to $1,563 pushed U.S. sales up to 288,583. and since you are giving examples of world wide sales, world wide the last 6V beetle is 1968.

True, VW production exceeded one million in 1965, but I don't know if that means overall VW sales exceeded one million in 1965. U.S. sales were higher in 1966 than in 1965, despite overall production being nearly the same for both years.

Does anybody know on what day of the week the very last 6 volt VW was built?
Who bought that car---------and who owns it now and what color is it?

Last year was 2017 but that’s ok. Let me clarify what I was trying to say 1966 was last year for 6 volt cars in the United States. Since I live in the United States and this website is managed within the United States I use that as a template when answering questions since most of the people reading this live in the United States. 😀

I think you know what I meant but I will spell it out to amuse you. The last 6V. Beetle was 1968.

As far as the Samba being a U.S. site let me remind you of what the Samba says;
With 1.6 million+ Gallery photos, 100,000+ free Classified ads, and over 7 million Forum posts, TheSamba.com has gained a "global audience" of Volkswagen enthusiasts, with over 50,000 unique daily visitors. In addition to the free classifieds, user gallery, and forums, the site currently includes an extensive archive of Volkswagen literature and manuals, a huge technical reference section, and worldwide listings for VW-related events, clubs, links, and businesses.

If Zundfolge would get a book and read it, your job around here would be a lot easier, wouldn't it? But on the other hand, you know how stubborn mechanics can be.

Hmmm.

Wasn't the Standard 6 volt in some markets until August of 1975?
