For some reason Samba won't let me copy and paste at 1972 English brochure. Go to the Archives, then to brochures 1968 and up, scroll down to 1972, keep going midway to # 5 brochure and open it. There are two beetles in blue side by side which says choose the beetle. 1200 or 1300 the right side of the page says: There are one or two differences ; the 1300 has the more powerful 12 volt system Whereas the 1200 has a 6 volt system.
Both cars are 1972 Rt hand drive cars for the UK market.
Now go to the 1975 German brochure and all the way to the bottom on the right is the specification chart. The 1200 gets 6Volts for the last time.
1975 is the last year for the 6 volt system in Europe/UK.
Don't believe me just go to the archives of the samba. Could have fooled me, I always read it was 1968! And who knows what happened in other parts of the world.

I think you know what I meant but I will spell it out to amuse you. The last 6V. Beetle was 1968.

Do not go with the flow, go with the truth. I have already proved it, just go to the archives of the Samba and see for yourselves.
Back in 1967 I thought 1966 was the last year for 6 volts too, that is until I bought a 65 111. I also thought the last 40hp engine was August of 1960. It turned out my 65 111 had the last 36hp engine. It also turned out that the last 40hp swing axle made in Germany was in January 1978.
We know this; Samba is a world wide site, I've had discussions with many people around the world about their cars on this site. When we find new information we don't change the topic in midstream to fit our goals, rather we should live in the moment and except the truth we have discovered and share it. Living with these past falsehoods only perpetuates them. |

a 6 volt side note:
... back in '92, I had a mechanically great, but totally rusted-out 1964 bus... then I bought an all white 8/66, 1967 bus that had a bad trans and engine, but great bod.
Put them side by side and took everything out of them and put the '64 mechanicals in the '67 - converting that 12 volt bus to 6 volts and drove it another 8 years, thata' way...
