I am about to install front wind shield on my 52 beetle 11g.
Am I correct in thinking this is the order of install ?
1 put rubber onto window.
2 install window into car
3 install retainer trim clips into moulding
4 install moulding into rubbers groove.
How close am I ?
Thanks John

I have never installed a garnish molding into new gasket, because I have never been able to. so, I leave it out, even though I have a 1952 to 1954 shop manual... I just don't get it.

But here is what it says:
1. place the weather strip around the windshield edge
2. fit a strong cord around the channel for the garnish molding.

This is done by a piece of tube, one end of which should be flattened. Insert the flat end into the channel and move it completely around the windshield. the cord, passing through the tube, is thus embedded in the channel as the tube is moved. The cord should cross in the center of the upper or lower windshield side.
3. First push one of the 2 molding halves completely into place and then the other. Starting at the point where the cord ends cross, slowly pull out the cord, while pushing the garnish molding into place by hand, until the operation is complete.
4. install the two garnish molding sleeves.
5. install the windshield into the opening... requires 2 persons.

So, it looks like the garnish molding is placed in the weather strip BEFORE the weather strip on the window glass is installed... PM me if you want photocopy of pages 6-8 and 6-9 of my VW Workshop Manual

splits had metal clips that were installed around the rubber gasket ever couple of inches and then the chrome strip was snapped onto the clips.

I would assume that doing all of this before installing the windshield into the car would still apply here.

We're restoring a March 1952 split window. Where can I get the windshield rubber, clips and molding for this car? Any sources or suggestions out there?

Splitpartsunlimited ad here.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=858789

$450 for the seal, clips and trim.

If you want the accurate parts this is the only vendor making them. I plan on using the '53 and later seal and trim. I just can't justify the extra cost for a part that most people would never notice but if you are going for a 100 point restoration this is your only choice.

I just bought the German seals with the molded corners from CIP1. They are running a 20% off sale until the 30th so I snagged a complete set. You can't buy a kit because nobody sells a set with the trim on the windshield and the plain seals for the rest of the windows so you have to buy the individual seals and trim.
