Hey everyone. I have a beetle I am stripping to turn it into a manx buggy, but a buddy of mine suggested using the body (which is a pretty decent shape) and making a baja. What is everyone’s opinion? |

What do you like better...I'd you like a buggy then you might be able to sell the bug and buy a buggy already road ready..
How handy are you...a lot of projects get started and then the owner finds out it is to much work to complete.. _________________ 73' Bug

A Baja would be drivable all year long in any weather, where a Dunebuggy is more seasonal limited to warmer and dry weather. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Also, keep in mind that the Baja may be easier to title/register...

I own a construction company with a full paint and fab/welding shop so i have more than enough tools to do whatever I wish. The only thing I can’t do is weld but my best friend welds for a living so thats covered. I’d mostly be using it as something to mess around in during the summer months. So since I only have most of a car, the heat being gone and it isnt an issue. I have a fiberglass manx style body sitting around that needs a kot of work but it fixable so I can go wither way. |

I have had baja's and a buggy. I loved the buggy but its too cold here to drive in the winter so it just sat all winter taunting me .Because of that I sold it and bought a baja convertible so I can drive it year round but still get that open car feel on nice days.
I miss how happy driving the buggy made me when I drove it and the people around me but there is something about driving year round.
In the end its really about what YOU want. |

I will say the convertible isnt as open feeling as a buggy. |

As said a Baja can keep the "Beetle" title and you can get regular car insurance for them. A Dunebuggy may need to be titled as a "Special Construction" or other special title involving more paperwork and possible inspections depending on your state laws. A Dunebuggy is more difficult to insure. Most regular car insurance companies will not issue a policy on them.
Please note to everybody, The state of Texas is currently not titeling and registering Dunebuggy, Sandrail, and other Kit cars. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Very nice, did it stay a few days?
I love it when the snow comes and covers up all the dirty brown of late fall. I just wish is was not from October to April! A few weeks would be plenty. |
