I am trying to decide between two 1995 vans. One has a 5 speed while the other is an automatic. Otherwise, they are exactly the same.
I know the 96-03 models are known for potential transmission problems. Any feedback on the auto transmissions in the 95 model?
All things being equal, what is better? I prefer the 5 speed but price wise the auto might be cheaper.
Oddly enough, they both have 65,000 miles on the odometer.
Thanks! |

I find autos to be more convenient to drive daily, but the manuals do have a much better reputation for reliability in the T4 chassis. _________________ Casey--

Manual all day, I don't believe you plan on daily driving this van correct? Go with the sure thing. _________________ 1993 VW Eurovan MV Weekender 2.5L 5cyl 5spd 230,xxxmiles and counting!

Hi again,
Thanks for your replies/suggestions.
No, it will not be a daily driver; just for trips so that convenience factor of an automatic is not present.

I like the manual transmission because I can control the torque during acceleration as well as engine rpm (and car speed) when driving up and down steep roads. |
