Cabinet options for a tin top.

I have a 78 passenger tin top. I would like to get the sink stove combo put it. Problem is I can’t find any companies that sell them. Where do people typically find these items? I have about a 2k budget.

I would start with what was made for them like one of many makers like Westfalia.

There are many others but it looks like most are in the UK.

If you are looking for new cabinets of existing old school setups, I'm not sure they exist.

Andrewtf just built custom cabinets for his two Rivieras.
If you have woodworking skills, making your own is an option.

Another idea is to contact Interstate. He typically doesn't salvage cabinetry, but you could ask him to save one if it comes up. He has high overhead, so it may cost a bit more than what would sell,on The Samba.

I prefer the full bed in and of itself (1), but there are other implications: The 3/4 bed means there's going to be that big closet which (2) is a huge useless waste of space and (3) obscures your visibility pretty terribly.

1. The full bed is much nicer with two people in it.

2. Maybe that closet is intended for people who want to hang up a change of clothes, wrinkle-free? I don't know anybody who both drives a camper and also might need to change into a suit. The closet is terrible for storage, everything is piled on top of everything else in a rats-nest jumble. Maybe if it had multiple tiers of shelves - a lot of people do add shelves. Still it takes up way too much of your precious interior space.

3. Whether you like the suit-closet or not, it still kills about 25% of your visibility when driving and natural light when camping - which I just can't stand.

Interesting points. I have a tin-top with a full bed, and have been planning to cut down to 3/4 because I need more storage and thought the two of us can fit just fine on a smaller bed. I think the problem is with the westfalia cabinets. If you can make custom units, they may be a bit more useful. I was going to go with slimmer cabinets than 1/4 width, more like 18%

I think Daverham is thinking of the older 68-73 floorplan Westfalia Type Cabinets. By 74 the biggest upper cabinet was in the back driver side and remained there all through Vanagon production.

The 74-75 Westfalia floorplan downfall if any is the cooler right in the doorway. By 76 having all the cabinets along the driverside opened up the whole space comparatively.

full bed for sure. 2 adults is still kinda snuggly.
I have a icebox bar combo (bar was a sportsmobile brand sink delete option) and honestly, it is just a space sucker. when the bed is down, and you get out of bed to put your shoes on, the space at the end of the bed is like a postage stamp if you have buddy seat, icebox, cabnets, ect. The great thing about some of the westie stuff is that it was modular. take out what you don't want to use and put it in when you go to a show.
I think sportsmobile still does interiors.
or what about stuff from a RVcamper interior?

If I were building a bus interior, I'm pretty sure I'd do a full bed and make the rest of the "cabinets" more modular.

I've thought about a full bed combined with the late Westy main cabinet, so skipping the fridge/cooler cabinet.

But in reality with the way I primarily end up using my Westy (weekend trips) I don't *need* the big cabinet, either. I use it because it's there, but the bus would be way more useful overall if I had the wider bed, and more open space, and just planned to use a couple totes and camping gas stove.

how thick of ply would be best for a full length bed? 3/4 thick is fine for a 2/3 length bed, but on a full I would think about going thicker. and that gets hard to find.

edit- something else to think about is a Z bed with a folded matress pad in the rear. The z bed hinges turn your existing factory bench seat into a fold down bed. not super comfy, but then fold over the matress pad over it and it is as good as everything else, and maintains stock look after pulling modular cabinets out!
