Very Happy Today is the first decent day that I was able to drive the Thing to work this season!! What a great morning!

Question Okay.... My husband bought me my Thing for my birthday. He just used that as an excuse to buy another VW. But I'm trying to learn as much as possible so I can do some things myself.
(This is probably a very elementary question but hey! I'm just a beginner at this!)
I saw at the gas station a pump that has non-oxygenated gas and it said it was for "Classic Vehicles and smaller engines". 92 Octane. Does non-oxygenated gas burn cooler and there by be better for older engines? Would this be something I should use in my '73?

stock vw engines were designed to run on regular. if your car isn't pinging, knocking or running on with the cheap stuff, then you shouldn't need the expensive stuff.

Oxygenated gas is fine to run in an aircooled engine. I use the cheapest gas available too, but I build all my motors to have a 7 to 1 compression ratio to avoid pinging.
Did you get alot of looks driving it to work? I sure do around here.

I believe oxygenated fuel has alcohol mixed in. It just isn't called gasohol. It may cause problems in old cars if the tank is rusty. I've used gasohol in the Thing on several occasions. No need for gas line antifreeze!
