Last weekend I drop one head to replace broken exhaust stud and to resolve my problem of exhaust leak and backfire
at the same time I install new plug ,cap, rotor, contact braker, wires
change the brake check valve (very old)

when everything was reinstall I start the engine start ok but i have to keep the trottle because engine die
and i heard some little backfire comming from tthe air cleaner
no good throttle at all
when i push the throttle start low for 1-2 sec then start to go hi

shit before the job everything was running great
idle was steddy at 850

no i check wires 1-4-3-2 was ok
look for vacuum leak see nothing
where i'm suppose to begin my recherche

check the dwell and timing again.

also check each wire again to be sure two aren't swapped.

Look for vacuum hoses left off. Is the plug connected to the AFM?

Was the distributor moved during the repair?
Is the TS2 secure and plugged in?

Any black smoke when it's running?

ts2 was reinstall on the head after work and i check for omhs
the distributor was remove to remove the tin and i forget to mark it but for installation i put the engine at tdc 0 on scale open the valve cover and check 2 valve on 1 cyl loose
put the distributor in with rotor pointing no 1

i think i move the engine with no distributor in when i do the job is it important?

Well it runs so you must have gotten it back in OK, but if the timing is retarded too much it may not idle.

A vacuum leak exhibits very similar symptoms: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=620083&highlight=smoke+tester

yes - put the timing light on it and have someone crank it over for you. See where the light is when it flashes. Set it to around 5 to 8 BTDC +/- to start and adjust it once it starts. Check the dwell angle before you do because if you adjust the points afterwards it will change the timing.

Yes because worn points will be opening and closing at different time to new points.

Set new points gap correctly.
Set static timing by rotating engine to point at the timing marker. Switch on ignition and check that the points are just opening using a test light. Loosen distributor clamp and rotate distributor nmtil the points just open and close.

The engine should run in that condition, if you try to crank it, allowing you to check dwell angle and timing.

If it will not start check again for leaks : inlet manifold not properly flat on head may be a problem.

If you want to try starting the engine while you are looking at it, rig a remote starter switch in the engine bay. Sometimes I use one of these and simply rotate the distributor slowly until it starts while cranking with the remote starter switch.

use Google translate. When you do put the French in and let it translate to English. Then put the English back in and let it translate to French. Do this until you are sure you are saying what you want to.

utiliser Google Translate. Lorsque vous mettez le français et laissez-le traduire en anglais. Ensuite, remettez l'anglais et laissez-le traduire en français. Faites-le jusqu'à ce que vous soyez sûr de dire ce que vous voulez.
