My rear seatbelts are faded, badly. The straps are still in good condition, but next to my new seat covers, they look crappy.
Has anyone successfully dyed your seatbelts to look fresh and new? |

DO NOT....dye your seat belts. Ballistic nylon....being 6,6 nylon is not as easy to dye. First....it takes an acid dye which alters the surface chemistry....weakens it. Second.....it has to be done in a batch oven at between 345° F and 445°F....which seriously weakens it.
Also older seat belts made of nylon 6.....absorb moisture at about 2-3%.....which seriously weakens and embrittles it. You are not even supposed to wash seat belts.
The problem with dying nylons.....is that yes....you can dye nylon FABRICS......that clothes bags etc ard made with....but those do not have to support any tensile strength.
Ballistic safety nylons are not dyed. They are mixed as raw granules of plastic with plastic colorants and heat spun into fibers. They are BORN with whatever color they have.
Your seat belts in an accident have to absorb HUGE load. At this day and age....with UV degradation, age and probably getting wet many times over the years.....you should replace them anyway. Ray |

Thx for the advice, Ray. It looks like ISPWest is getting more of my money this week. I had just put an order in Monday. |

Agree, old seat belts aren't safe if you are actually expecting them to save your life.
The only thing I have ever done is clean them with soap/water/mild cleaners but I don't really trust those ones 100%. They are more for looks.
I think you have a '67 with the new red interior? Those didn't originally have rear seat belts anyway so find some brand new red ones to match. _________________ How to Post Photos

Yep, I found some on ISPWest that are red with a chrome buckle. It is always hard to tell color shades online. They should be close enough |

Agreed. For the cost of new belts, why screw around with a "safety device". _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I agree completely - I hadn't thought it through. For $50 I can get brand new pretty seat belts. That's what I am going to do. |

These are great- I've bought and used lots of them. FYI, the "Wolfsburg" decals are sort of cheesy IMHO. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Do you know the length of the two point seat belts on ISPWest? I don't see it in the description. |

I'd take them off right away if they are known to be crappy.
He's in AZ and they would probably get gross and sticky from the heat
Easier to remove and clean them before install _________________ How to Post Photos

That's exactly what I am going to do...have some mounts to weld in first. |

Ask them to leave them off. They will. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

The ones I bought from CIP didn't come with a sticker, so I lucked out.
I think they're all basically made by the same company. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
