I took them apart so that I could get all new stainless hardware and epoxy the brackets and support rods.
I decided to paint them all black because I think silver will take away from the chrome on the actual bumpers. (Haters gonna hate)
I felt sooo safe when I pulled the “support beam” from behind the bumper out.
So that’s the safety equipment to protect me in a crash!? Omg

Just leave it off the bumper.
That way when the inevitable crash comes. Death will be a nano second quicker! Shocked

I don't have them on my 67.

Bumpers are for bumping!

Leaf spring may work or get some steel bar and bend to fit. I have a hitch support on my rear bumper, like so
