Hello from France
By flipping through my 1968 KG user manual - corresponding to the vintage of my Karmann, I come across the following board:
Nothing more normal ...... except that I wonder about the name and the use of the red circled piece:
which is not mentionned on the manual and is not in my engine either!
it seems connected to the intake manifold
Can you tell me more?
Have a good day

Hello, It is called a one piece throttle valve positioner. There is a two part one also.
It helps in not letting the throttle return to idle, For about three seconds. It makes for better shifting and improves tail pipe emissions?
I think if you use the search, it will give you a better function diffenition. |

1968 was the first year the US had any sort of emission control program.
Almost everything in the early days was a bolt on item and while it may have reduced emissions, it was often at the expense of a good running engine.
Many people, myself included, removed most of this add on crap.
I'm guessing your Ghia came from the States?

Thanks for your answer,
Yes, my Ghia came (back) from States
She went there on aug 1967 (it's one of the first 1968 millesim)
I think that the throttle positioner has been removed by one of her us owner
Thanks again
