Working on a friend’s bus. Main project is the front skin replacement but also other stuff like safari windows install and front disc brakes.
The brakes are the new AC Industries offering which includes EVERYTHING needed for a bolt on swap! The quality seems to be great. Vented rotors with the same exact “[face” as that of the drum brakes so unless you tell someone, they could not suspect you have disc brakes. They also clear 14” bus wheels! The process is fairly easy and straight forward.
This bus sat in the Aridzona desert for quite some time!
Had to “clean up” the cap!
Front had “crunch” damaged all the way to the driver’s side dash! Not to mention the window frame rust.
Now you see it…
Now you don’t!
Damage:
So far it is all mocked up, next the welding starts! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise.

Nice, quick, clean work on that front skin. What’s the story with that brake kit? Looks really good, but I’ve never seen it mentioned before. |

That disc kit is pretty cool.
The nose looked like it was in pretty nice shape from the pics. Was it just rusty in the channels? _________________ GFK

I really like the looks, easy install and killer price of the brake kit! Have yet to test it as the bus ain't running. Turn key 1776 is coming to it.
As far as the front skin is concerned, "looks" are deceiving! Look closer at the windshield frame pictures. Rusted pretty much through! The bus had been hit fairly high up and it even kinked the dash. Done straightening it up as best I could. Getting ready to start welding up the skin.
This job is somewhat like them shows on TV about resto/customs with "limited" time to do everything since the owner is moving to Hawaii around October. Normally I do build engines but with the time pressure I suggested he gets someone else to do the engine while I get the skin and other "running" issues taken care of. _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

I'll take a pix of the inside of the skin to show the damage and of course from there you can guess the amount of bondo smacked on the front.
On THAT note, my own front skin "looked" really good too... until I smashed it! It showed the gobs of bondo and when I removed it you could see all the previous patches done over rust! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

Is that dash bent there from the impact? |

So, this AC Industries disc kit that is claimed to fit 14s doesn’t fit on 15s? |

Apparently not. Seems like most kits that fit stock wheels sell one kit for 15s and one for 14s, like CSPs for example. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

From a post on SV2s.com this brake kit will fit stock 14s and aftermarket 15s. William is pondering spacers, a bit of caliper grinding or changing wheels/tires to get the disc kit to fit his Split. _________________ Larry in OB

Would you mind linking me to his post there? There seem to be scant reviews on these brakes and I am considering a set. I have stock 15's and am interested in knowing how much interference we're talking about. |

Southern country slang sir... I guess that is not a common saying in San Clemente CA?

Not to hijack, but thanks for posting the link to the brake info. I wouldn’t hesitate to clearance those calipers. |

Seems like with a little grinding of the caliper and maybe a little tasteful reshaping of the back of the wheel, you could get 1/8" clearance. That's really all that is needed IMO.
Thanks for the link the the SV2 site |

No, it's really not, at least with the folks I hang with here on the west coast. Perhaps we are just not as fascinated with shit as much as guys in the "Southern country", but I haven't spent much time there to know. To each his own I suppose. Have a good evening! _________________ Jack Staggs

from the description on the kit :

This will work with original 14″ wheels and most 15″ aftermarket aluminum wheels. |
