I've searched the forums with little luck. Anyway, my 63s decklid is in need of a replacement. Considering a w vert decklid but I'm only coming up with 2 pics here on the samba. Any chance anyone has pics of 58 to 65 cars with w decklid? Thanks! |

We talked about this a while back and someone put an image in this thread:

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox. |

I googled “W decklid”, went to images and cake up with several. How many do you need? _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

I'd say all of those that fit the request of pics of '58 to '65 Bugs with a W decklid. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

As mentioned in the linked post, at one point I rather loved the W lid, but then I came around to liking the keeping the stock look for the year of the car. Not that I don't have some incorrect parts for my-month-of-manufacture on my 62. But not really visible ones.
Also, at one point I thought my cooling system would work better if I vented my decklid, so I found a 62 convertible lid and bought it... but if I had not found that one I would not have ruled out using a vented W lid - I always preferred that style of vertical louvres over the later horizontal. _________________ Andy T.

Andy, I thought your '62 had a stock engine. No? _________________ -Kent (BaT "daleallen")

Stock? uhh, yes and ….
well, when I bought the car it had the original engine but it got damaged at some point and required an offroad sand seal crank pulley. So when I restored the car in 1992 I built another 40HP that I tried to make look correct as possible (by then, the car was 12V so I used a GR26X upon which I mounted the regulator) and eventually put my 62's original engine in a 61 which I fixed up and sold. So it's long gone. Currently I have a 1961 engine that was later remanufactured by VW, with the best 1965 cylinder heads. Every engine I've had in that car has been big bore 40HP, even the original block had this done to it by some previous owner. It still looks fairly stock, but I do have a mild upgrade beyond the 40HP in the works, if I ever get around to finishing the project. _________________ Andy T.

It's weird because it has the pushbutton, with the raised part not flaring out, and a small nose ( no lead plugged holes indicating a 64 )

Skin pressing changes as the flared wings at license plate light housing discontinued and are now straight and end above the housing. Small round hole for light wiring BUT has 3 holes drilled for small license plate light housing.
Here is the bentley reference

Maybe a reproduction or OEM replacement? Sometimes they made them without the holes so they could be drilled to accommodate various years. I know they did it with fenders to make them more useful for a wider range of years. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)
