Everything white, except for the fasteners (bright zinc), and the black splash pans. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

If you want to, you can come over and look at mine up in the attic. It's all assembled and I know it was done correctly. |
I may do that if it's not a big hassle. I need to get a couple more bolts out and need to deal with deformed spacers before I'm even close. WW is out of stock on the spacers, so I'll just have to massage these back into a usable condition...
Although... there are similar spacers on the front bumper but the oacdp parts manual says the rears are 5mm shorter than the fronts... anyone know off the top of their head if they are otherwise identical? I have the technology to make long parts short...

Sorry I can't help you on the bumper bracket color. |
No worries at all. I'm not super concerned about it since I don't think they're visible when installed anyway. Just figured I'd attempt to go correct.. lol

So the L82 silver white for the brackets, same as the bumper and wheels? Not sure I'd buy a rattle can just for the brackets.... Hey Major - got plans to shoot silver-white any time in the near-ish future? I'd want to get the bumper ready first.... |

You buy the topcoat and I'll do it. I have a couple chips on my bumper and a crack on my poptop to fix. I have the epoxy primer and the slicksand. Paint is PPG single stage silver white, reducer and catalyst. Hold onto your hat when you see the price. |

Excellent. Looks like they’re the same. I’m assuming that the difference in diameter on the new ones is just an optical delusion... lol |

Well that sounds painful... maybe I’ll wait until the bumpers and wheels are ready... both bumpers need some sweat equity so I’ve got some time. Ha! |

Spent some time this weekend starting cleanup on the cabinets including un-puckering the trim (loads of fun...). Learned a lot on that. I'll share some tips and pics in one of the dedicated posts instead of burying it in here.
The PO put a bunch of holes in the cabinets to add 1x2 strips along the top to add storage and a few more to put up a clothesline.. is there an easy way to fill / hide those? One day, I'll likely reskin the cabinets, but that's pretty far down the road, so anything I can do is just to improve appearance. Any suggestions aside from a little body filler and color matched paint?
A question on the protective sheet in the rear cargo area - Vinyl or linoleum? And is there a way it can be peeled up, smoothed out and put back down? Mine is pretty beat, but it's obviously shrunk side-to-side, and for now I'd just like to smooth it out (see the last pic in here - yeah, I know it's been painted... )

Might try white acrylic/silicone caulk. If off color-wise too much, it paints over well. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Way too simple and likely to succeed... I’m thinking something more along the lines of sand some hidden spots, collect the dust, mix with epoxy, fill, sand, polish, repeat 50 times because it’s not smooth, cuss a lot, get frustrated, pull cabinets, peel and recover with Formica.
See? Isn’t that better?
Thanks. I’ll give the acrylic caulk a try. |

If you have a drill press you could use a plug cutter to make plugs or buy plugs. Drill the cabinet holes clean to accept the plugs glued in with a Fuller plug/countersink bit. You could even glue white Formica onto the wood that you are going to cut plugs from and then glue those in. |

That’s a good idea... can’t remember if I have a set of plug cutters, but I’m not opposed to a new tool acquisition. |

anyone have a preference for re-gluing the linoleum in the back? In looking at it, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to peel it most of the way up and warm it up a lot to attempt to stretch it back to it's original size. It's pulled away from the right side almost an inch and the back about 1/2 inch...
Trying to get rid of the bubbles and make it fit again..

Continued on with cabinet cleanup. Got after the "utility" cabinet hardware today. Forgot to get a shot of the flip latch that keeps it from rotating out, but that's just a solid brass piece... it shined up really nice.
Used a heat gun to get the T and K trim back to their original form and position. I have found that it's easiest to leave all of the hardware installed and not pull the trim out completely. That saves you from having to try to get the position exactly right and potentially overstretch one section... Same results as the other cabinets I had done before.
But I should have bought a lotto ticket... I pulled the bumpers and wheel off of that cabinet and figured I'd try to clean them up a bit before soaking them in glycerine (which I don't have on hand just yet). So I figured Simple Green would pull all the dirt and grease out so the glycerine could do its job more effectively... Mixed up a 50/50 SG/water solution and tossed the pieces into the ultrasonic for an hours (at about 35C).
Couldn't believe how well they turned out when I pulled them out. I'm pretty sure they lost some of their outer surface since I can't read the words on the wheel any more (maybe that'll change post-glycerine), we'll just have to see.
Anyway, hopefully this will work for someone else as well as it worked for me.

Looks good! My '62 has two more of those bumpers on the drivers wall to help secure the cushion down toward the bottom cushion. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Well sweet mother of pearl... I do too! hadn't noticed them before since they're hiding under the curtains...
I should probably pull and clean those too... although they're not in nearly as rough shape as the ones from the cabinet. |

Waiting on glycerine... and it’ll start with just a little bit. If I can find some that are dead, broken, and no longer useable I’ll try a heated overnight soak...
I’m just not feeling that brave at the moment to try it on good ones... |
