Maybe it's just me, but I'm generally noticing prices leveling or dropping for Westy's and Syncro campers from what I'd say were stratospheric levels at this time last year. Seem to be plenty of good or reasonable deals for late model Westys (the ones you want) recently. I don't claim to know what that says about the economy. Maybe it just means more folks are buying Transits, Promasters, Sprinters and Metris's (Metri?). Maybe it means some sellers need to sell for personal economic reasons. Regardless, it seems we're at least in a bit of a buyer's market. If I was buying a van right now, which I'm not, I'd definitely make a solid counter offer. |

New fuel tank. I doubt that, probably not going to find an NOS syncro fuel tank. _________________ Steve

I routinely keep an eye on Craigslist and in the last year I have only seen the prices increase and the number of Vanagons listed diminish. The ones that are listed at lower prices disappear very quickly. |

Maybe it's an east/west coast thing too. I live back east and recently bought a late model Westy for a client (a side hobby for me) that had been for sale for quite awhile. It was in good shape and the price I got was not fire sale, but really reasonable. The fairly nice, nothing super fancy vans I'm seeing from 87-91 lately on thesamba seem to mostly be in the lower-mid 20's, which seems about right. That Syncro on Craigslist on this thread, I'll be interested to see if it goes for what's being asked. Very nice van. Of course, we probably won't know that. |

i have watched lower priced Vanagon dwell for months on CL. they usually have some rust, some mechanical issues, and tatty engines. then there are the identical, but much higher priced ones that seem to dwell for a few weeks. not sure if they are sold or if the seller realizes their Vanagon isn't worth the 20k they thought it was.
basically the prices are all over the place, but i have seen CL ads for Vanagons in the classifieds here that are listed at the same time but for more money here, upwards of $1000 more! _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL Camper
