So I traced to horn issue down to needing a new horn, so got one in order. While I was at it, I got to messing with the dash clock and got it working. After a week, it keeps absolutely perfect time.

It was 41* this morning and I can definitively say the heat works outstandingly well. I was rolling down the window within 5 minutes.

We decorated the Bug and my wife and kids rode with me in our local Christmas parade. We had a great time and got a lot of VW love on the route.

Glad to see you made it thru the parade. I have done a few and it is so hard on the clutch. This is the last parade we did. Daughter is involved in High School Equestrian Team and they had planned on decorating the truck up with hay bales ect, but when they heard it had to be a parent driving, she quickly changed her tune to the Bug. Her teammates were equally excited to ride on the bug for the parade. I told her no way was the hay going in the bug!
Anyways, I have enjoyed your story with your 79. I have had ours for 25 years now. It is my only bug I have ever owned. They are fun, comfortable and just a fun car to drive around town. Keep up the work, and keep us posted with your progress. I had redone the interior light 20 years ago with nice used piece. Some time ago it quit working, I had completely forgotten about it till I saw your post yesterday. Now I have a project to do over winter break. Thanks for the inspiration.

^^^ Beautiful Epilogue Triple Black!!! Looks fantastic.

Having earlier Bugs, I must say by 79 they really made a lot of improvements. I知 having so much fun driving the car daily and being able to tape decorations on it without concern for the paint, and pile the kids or dog in it without worrying about the interior, that I may just leave it as is and not paint it.

I値l keep doing stuff to improve it, but we値l see how far that goes. I don稚 want to make a show car of it and then be afraid to use it like I am now. I値l take my other 2 to shows. This one is just for fun. I may change my mind later or decide to do some creative paint scheme myself. I never know what I知 gonna do until I do it.

Well, I spoke too soon on my clock. Started losing time and the light never did work. Tested bulb on a 9v battery and it was fine. I figured out the ground wire on the clock was the problem. Tapped a new ground screw under the dash and ran a new wire and the clock and light both work now!!! We値l see how long the time holds. I think it was intermittently losing ground causing it to stop momentarily. Over time it would lose more and more time.

I had my front strut inserts replaced and new shocks on the back.

New soft brake lines, adjusted brake push rod and brakes all around.

Rides, drives, and stops like new!!!

I had a local VW shop tackle it as I've been working like crazy and just haven't had time to do much in the garage...but been driving one (rotating) of my VWs daily The shocks and struts were toast, which I've known since I test drove it. Glad it's done now.

Me and my stepfather-in-law got spotted cruising by someone that knew me. They took this pic going down the road and sent it to me.

Rides and drives like a new car. New shocks and struts rule!!!

Tip: Rotate your rear view mirror 180 degrees when the top is down; it was designed this way so you can see over the folded down top.
