I have an '81 diesel rabbit. It has a dark blue interior and headliner, the latter of which almost seems like a light carpet type of material.
Anyone know whether such a type of headliner material was every factory installed? |

The Westmoreland Rabbits had a foam backed velour headliner adhered to a foam core panel. This headliner material is usually readily available at your local FLAPS or even some fabric stores. Do NOT damage or lose the foam core panel, they are difficult to find.

Thanks. It sounds like the foam panels are original. I will have to check your description against what's there. |

In that age of cars (The 80's), nearly all brands domestically produced which includes VW had these headliners, and they all come un-bonded, and fall down.
Any good interior shop will be able to re-hang your headliner, because they've been fixing this crap for 30 years now.
Our VW's add a complication because on the window seals go over the material,
my buddy used push pins to hold his up in is POS '82 Camaro _________________ Good Luck
