Skills... yes! I totally agree with the whole welfare rip off. Trust me, I do. I live in California and see it all over the place. We should do like Florida did or does and require drug testing to collect the SNAP/EBT/WIC ... Run DMC yeah you know me crappola.

But I stand with what I say: None of us should be paying a public service employee’s retirement at any more than 50-60% and I say that with my pocket book and as a son of a State employee. If they want that cushion, then pay for it themselves...

This is completely off track, (yup, pun is intentional!) but that pic is interesting.
How did the rail cars end up laying on the inside of the curve? If the train had been going too fast for the curve, they would be on the outside.

It’s called ‘string-lining’ and it happens when the locomotives pull the train too hard through the uphill curve when light, empty cars are passing through it. The pulling energy literally lifts a few wheels high enough up off the rail and then the whole car pops off. It brings the coupled cars, too until the emergency brakes apply. There are measures to prevent this, obviously, but sometimes shit happens even when everything was done right.

Maybe it's time we all have a Samba sing along?!? Wink .

I want to hold xevin's and gary's hand while we sing this Very Happy

Quote:
2) Steve... that guy’s career is actually part of the problem. People like me are tired of paying taxes, assessments, fees, impounds or whatever you want to call it for ANYONE... firefighters and corrections officers and state cops included... to enjoy such OUTRAGEOUSLY DISPROPORTIONATE retirement plans.

And THAT little tirade is coming from me who leans more to the left than the right. And I spent nearly two years as a union steward helping people, too. Good careers and well thought out retirement plans are one thing. Greed and financial gluttony at the Public Trough is quite another

what you need to be tired of is all of the "free rides" the gov't hands out like candy....that is the real issue. at least the people you are tired of paying for wake up and work every day....

I am tired of standing in line to see some scumbag use a SNAP card with a cart full of ho-ho's chips and top sirloin to follow them out to the parking lot and jump into a escalade with chrome 26's.....that is where you need to focus some anger...

having family members that work for gov't both on the state and federal level I can tell you this....they can make more in the private sector....but...there is no loyalty anymore and the way the world is today, your job could be gone tomorrow.

I can see the appeal of aimlessly driving around doing whatever....but as stated when you get sick/injured what is plan B? gofundme? not sure I have the answer...but I have some ideas....

anyway I think everyone should live for today but plan for tomorrow. the reality is last week I was 19...then woke up at 37...the years slide by faster than you realize

Start with the corporate handouts and I'm right there with you. Wink

Wait, this changes everything. Skills, you’re only 37!?

Dam spring chicken! Laughing

Can we change the thread name to 100,000 differences of opinions?

Enjoy Mexico Robbie. We’ll work this out in the meantime. Very Happy

And here I thought he was like four years old... Very Happy

X2 on both these statements. A rebuild to me constitutes, machining, new bearings, new pistons and cylinders, heads rebuilt, etc. What I recall is he only installed a used cam and new lifters and nothing else. If that's the case, I'd say he did an engine repair even though it was a major surgery to replace the lifters.

Yes, he should note this engine repair in his "trip reports" since he posts them for all to see.
I am in alignment with Robbie in his view of these old VW buses can be very reliable. If the VW's mechanical systems have been gone through using quality parts and the engines are stock running original restored, carbs, generators and fuel pumps, they should be very reliable.

All rebuilds are repairs but not all repairs are rebuilds... but maybe they are, since what you're doing is putting something that has ceased functioning back into service again.

Rebuilt, remanufactured, overhauled, repaired... what's the difference? It depends who you ask.

Most of them are what I call "repukes" which involves mainly a can of spray paint to add perceived value to whatever it was you just fixed.

Sounds like the referenced repair might have been a repuke, but it depends who you ask. If it works, then the repuke should be good for additional brownie points.

Seems like Robbie is a typical tech... we're all cheap AF and we'll cut corners on our own vehicles like mofos but we'll pay attention when we do so, which means our shit will run better and longer than the poor sap building his shit from repuked parts.

So, for us it's this rather than going to the parts store and buying, say, a repuked starter, alternator, or brake caliper that came from a witch's brew of now mismatched parts in a parts cleaner, was slapped together with a minimum of substandard repair parts, and then rattle- canned.

Oh, and I also want to say that I don't really understand the feud.

Blame yourselves for supporting elite communists who believe people get to live out of your pocket. I worked 56 years to earn Soc Sec and not be a burden on others until my health started failing. It is my money put away for 56 years. While in the local office the other day there were about 100 couples and individuals there. I heard 3, maybe 4 english conversations.Everything else was from all over the planet and most had some kind of feigned disability. This country is done. So is your wallet if you think the Trump cuts will make it to your wallet before the communists and Bernie babies will take it. They are good at stealing anything not nailed down.

not mine - I was too stupid to borrow money on those terms. I also learned early in life that nothing is free. JB Weld, for example, is not a "free" repair.

JB might be a perfect way to get another month out of a daily driver to get to the Holidays, when the engine can be dropped for a closer look or rebuild/ repair/ whatever. If it stops a leak, that’s great.

My restored 67 bug's original fuel tank had a couple pinhole leaks on the bottom of it 12 years ago when I carefully cleaned it and applied some JB Weld.

One of these days I should really fix it right. Wink
