New beetle owner. Never had one before. Have restored my 1972 baywindow twice in 20 years of ownership.

What is the name of this piece behind the running board and below the door? Does anyone just sell what I would call the rocker portion with the bolt whole for the step?

Thanks

While we are at it how would you guys go about repairing the edges of the fenders?

Here's a link for repair panels.

https://www.millsupply.com/auto-body-rust-repair-p...s-rockers/

The fender areas are a compound bend with a lip so it's going to be involved to do a nice job with that. The metal has to be shrunk or stretched and the same goes for the lip.

If you hammer a piece of sheet metal on a anvil , it will curve up away from the anvil and towards the hammer giving you a cheap method to make a compound curve.

Looks like you’re going to need to replace a heater channel. If not, they make a piece for just the outside. I have one somewhere.

From what I can tell from the outside the rest of the heater channel looks solid. Won't know until I cut this piece out.

Is the panel I need?

Why is it all the places that sell body panels only have crappy images on their websites? I'm thinking because the panel fits poorly.

I'm going to try and find a couple of good used fenders if I can.

I think the images and the quality of the parts are two different issues. A lot of the parts do not fit perfectly and taking a better picture would take more time.

Somehow they cut corners on there stamping mold. The parts are consistent compared to the same part they made but there is usually an area that does not match perfectly that connects to another panel.

I’m pretty sure that’s the right one.

Thanks. I'd like to see a real photo of one or better yet here someone's experience in using it before ordering. I have a garage full of sub par body replacement panels.
