Has anybody tried making a cold air intake system from those 2" intercooling pipe kits from Ebay? |

Yes it has been tried & done with varying components/success. He probably just wants to duct dual Webers to the stock intake air oval outlet.
W1K1 in Canada has the best one so far! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

my 71 sb has dual carbs and the EMPI filters are restricting air, car runs fine with air filters, as soon as I put them on they choke. so I'm looking into alternatives. |

I just found 21 discussions on dual carburetor air cleaners by using the Search tab below the Forums tab.. There have been VW Fox/Quantam/Australian etc components found to use in a Type 3 setup. Read through these 21 discussions & you'll find the components used/needed.

I have read a lot the last 3 weeks, non of which mentioned the intercooler piping kits. I was just wondering if anyone had success with it. |

2"tubing will not supply your carbs with enough air unless you are putting a turbo on it.
I started with 2.5" oval tubing, the engine fell on it's face around 4K when it ran out of air. the filter was fed by both the stock location and a scoop under the car, pushing through 2.5" hose.
My current oval intake is equivalent to a 4" diameter tube. still fed by 2 2.5" tubes. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

thanks for the feedback. will scrap that idea lol. think I will measure the cfm needed for each carb this weekend as a starting point. it's stock at the moment but I'm planning on building a 1776 this winter. |

Using an online calculator I get about 150cfm for a 1600. That's about 75 per carb at 6500 RPM.
