Hi need help in identifying this engine that I have had in my shed for 30 years.
Is it a 1952? 25 or 36 hp? And what do the other letters and numbers refer too? There is no dash after the first number 1 (1-) Cheers

If that is an original engine # stamping, 1459479 would be from June 1956
So a 36hp engine.
It looks to have 36hp parts on it - late 36hp lower pulley, 36hp engine tin, 1955-up oil filler, 56-58 fuel pump and so on.
The large upper generator pulley nut ended in 1955 but that could be installed on the engine _________________ How to Post Photos

I also have another engine from 1956. If both engines are from 1956, why does one engine have the dash (-) after the number 1 and the other does not? 8 digits vs 7 digits. Thanks. |

The -1- prefix ended at the end of 1955.
So you could have a 1956 model year engine that was made in 1955 and has the -1- prefix
-1-1131213 is from August, 1955
From 1955-onward, August was typically the start of the new model year, although I don't know if that was different in NZ. _________________ How to Post Photos

Many thanks for your expertise.
And thank you for explaining it so clearly.
Best regards. |

The other odd thing with the engine numbers stamped on these two engine blocks, is that rather than the numbers being more or less vertical, they mainly seem to lean to the right, even allowing for camera lens distortion. |
