Had this in my garage for about 20+ years, this car was featured in European Car back in August 1992, I have owned it since 87, now trying to figure out what to do with it? I used to take it to Ron Wood at VW specialties, but Ron closed up shop long ago, wondering who is good and trustworthy in SoCal to work on Watercooled veedubs? I know it needs a waterpump and probably a lot more than that to get it running...any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.
Some details about the car, it is fit with a body kit that was originally from South Africa...the front was trashed years ago, so I ordered a Zender front to complete it. 15x7 ET30 MOMO 5 stars, Neuspeed throttle body and Cam, sway bars, strut bar, Billstein/Eibach suspension, Remus exhaust, recaro seats, Kamei hood scoop, canvas top (needs to be replaced now) and it is an automatic with a custom MOMO gear knob and MOMO Shift boot. The stereo was a custom sound system with Kenwood head unit and amps, all custom done by LA Sound from back in the day.
Not sure if I now want to sell it, or maybe cruise it on the weekends? Either way I need to find a reliable mechanic to get it going. I know they are easy to work on, but I honestly don't have the patience or confidence to do it myself anymore.
Thanks all, great to be back in the Veedub community, love to see all the cars from around the world. |

cool car for sure!
I say run it. you will not get any real $$ for the car. the interest in these has died about 10-15 years ago.
there was a time I could get 12-1800 for that body kit in an hour when I posted it....there is a nice NOS zender air dam for sale now...and hasn't sold.
not sure who to suggest, as I am not in CA. your biggest challenge will be the CIS stuff. I would do a fuel tank drop/clean and pray it will start. if the fuel varnished all the CIS stuff...it is going to get very expensive very fast _________________

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public. |

Thanks guys for the replies. Also, the EC issue was actually August 93, was a Porsche anniversary issue with a classic red 911 on the cover.
For now I will keep it I guess, but it is interesting to see around the Globe that these cars are still appreciated. It is interesting to see the Hot Rod 70's market has made it's boom, but I think as time goes by that the 80's cars are now starting to get some desire. I don't think the thing will ever match a 69 Camaro or a Microbus LOL...but it is interesting to see some nice cars that are now catching the eyes of some collectors around the world and for now maybe it will be a cool car to take to some car shows. |
