Just got delivered last Friday from South Carolina. I didn't want another project but the wife has wanted one of these for a few years now. The previous owner had it on a rotisserie so it's missing some items like complete brake system, treasure chest floor ect. ect... This one is not as overwhelming as my 61 Mango is. I'm going to try and tackle this one myself and send the Mango to a shop. I know the rear corners on the single cab are later but is there any other difference besides the taillights? I'm thinking I can fill those in and cut in openings for the correct lights. What year deck lids will work on this? I have the front bumper but is a little rough. Do I just use a hammer and "beat it" into shape or is there a special tool?

engine lid needs to match the apron and the props. The size is the same for all of them but the latch and props are different by year, and the aprons are different by year.

look a the apron you got, and find a matching lid (latch). don't overlook the props.

obviously you should have an early lid, with an early apron and early props.

if your apron is original, you should be able to fit anything all the way up to 61 or so. to 57 they have 3rd brake light lids. They fit and are cool. then you have flat ones and not flat ones, there are a ton of little differences.

what really does not want to work are the later ones with the key latch and newer props. those are also the cheapest ones.

This is the apron I have for it. The logo on the driver's side gate says Air Conditioning, comfort, ?, Heating, incorporated. The back gate says Comfort, ?, incorporated

looks like the original with the hole for the hand crank. So you definitely want an early lid. between the brake light one and the later one.

I am in South Carolina and looking for a split window single cab. Where did you find this one? Mind sharing what you paid for it?

I remember when that SC was listed and the guy wanted a fortune then realized he listed way too high and kept on lowering it. I hope you got a good deal, looks cool.

You just missed a thread on Singlecab buying:

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=706533&start=20

I'm pretty sure bschooly went w/ Far Rider's '65 Green/White Single cab.
Read the thread, lots of good buyer advice for Singlecabs......

It was in Anderson S.C. . I traded another bus for it.

I've got to figure out how to straighten out that front bumper. I want to keep it.

I looked through your old pictures on here and was hoping to see some pics of it when you owned it. No luck though. Crying or Very sad

The underside looks good. It was on a rotisserie previously and they cleaned it up and sprayed it. It does need some metal work but frame is great. I see that is is missing some bolts on the front beam and rear end. It was just put back together enough to move it. I'm excited that I was able to make out all of the logos. Were going to try and re-create them back on there. No plans to re-paint the scab. I'm am going to leave it like it is. My first attempt at welding is coming soon. I am going to patch the rear tail lights and put original ones back in. Pray
