I agree, that collar is exactly what a Type 3 fender wants. |
I never said it wouldn't fit, I just said NOT type 3 specific. I recently emailed t3kg Hirchmann antenna mounting instructions and they were for most VW types. Mr. Trammuel, just like your cool record player and phone, Nice but not type 3 specific. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

That is one - but not the one I got. Its actually a bug specific or at least the directions are for a bug. Lucky too as it has the slanted fitting perfect for the hole in the notchback fender.
I guess lots of the stuff in the thread are not specific to the T3, but then again I would think that being Universal is built into any smart business plan when making goodies. As in this example - an antenna.

Nice! Did it have that sterilized hospital smell to it? When I opened a NOS Hirschmann, it had a distinct odor to it. _________________ Justin |

No it did not. But could smell the rubber from the winder deal.
I also have a regular Hirschmann antenna - it has a chemically smell. Maybe my interpretation of your hospital smell? _________________

Not sure if this belongs in the accessory thread but these badges are kinda rare to find unbroken and with original paint.
Only took three years of keeping an eye out but I finally completed the badge set for my project. Australian built VW 1600 TS rear deck lid badge and almost mint side marker badges. Was only available between 66,67 and part way through 68. After that the Australian built cars ceased and the went to CKD kits (Completely knocked down) shipped in crates from Germany and assembled in Australia. They also went back to the 1600TL and 1600TLE designation of the German built cars.
That should explain why it took so long to find the badges. They were only built for a short time for a limited market. The Australian manufacturing plant was eventually wound up and most of the records were dumped. That's also why it's impossible to obtain an official VW birth certificate for Australian built cars.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the TS stands for Twin S although I could be wrong.

There are two - the Type3 ones that reside toward the headlights and these that replace the spot where the side marker goes.
I dont think a proper answer for what TS is for has ever been produced? Touring Saloon is one of them. Now a days its The Samba The later 66-67 TS stuff does seem to be a bit harder to find. Good score. _________________

Ok two different things here. The Volkswagen TS script I thought was for the German banged cars. Separate from the side marker TS - Canadian market ones.
These are obviously similar but for two different things? As well as the afore mentioned Australian market TYPE3 badge. _________________

Next to impossible to find an NOS one now.
Australian produced only 1966-67 1600 TS Fastback.

Hey Aaron, nice badge. So rare and very tempting buy off you but I have two spares now (missing paint) I could refurbish if one ever gets lost or pinched.
Before fitting the rear badge I'm going to get it 3D scanned. They're all usually broken by heavy handed dismantlers.
BTW, looking forward to getting the rare 12v early body (LHD) wiper mech I bought off you.
Cheers. Paolo. _________________ Sydney, Australia.

If anyone is interested in the chronology and model names of Australian built Type 3's you should have a read of this Clubvw page.
Seems the Twin S was a 1965 twin carb version of the 1500s.
The 1600TS is clearly a different model and no references point to the TS being an abbreviated version of Twin S although you could forgive me for making the connection.

Its always interesting to see the pissing match between AUS built VW's and German rules to keep consistent. Australia seems to be the biggest battle grown for this as we dont often hear about problems with the home office from South Africa or even any Latin country. _________________
