How lucky am I? Decided to reseal my syncro transaxle and found a cracked low gear housing, so figured now was the time to check my 3/4 slider. It shifted fine prior to being removed. It just leaked a lot. I just pressed the shafts out of the gear carrier and was laying them on the bench next to the press and the 3/4 slider fell apart. I uploaded these two pictures of the broken slider. It broke exactly where the predicted failure occurs.

It has the original square cutouts and the main shaft bearing cover, so I assume original. I'm not near the cluster, but I remember it being over 200k miles.
edit: correction 180,000 miles on the speedo head. I just checked. _________________ ☮️ |

I never did update this. I did end up replacing my transmission from one I found in California. I suppose that somebody could have guessed that based on my topics further on, but I figured for anyone searching threads, yes! It was absolutely the transmission. Second time taking it out and putting it back in and I must say that I couldn’t do it without the Samba.
Thanks again guys. |
