I'm in need of a 1970 turn signal switch...any suggestions? Or does anyone know of an alternative

Check the classifieds, and if you come up empty, try contacting ISPwest, Boo-Koo-Z, or others who sell a lot of stuff here.

Why do you need a new switch? The most common failure is a broken plastic stud, so it won't hold or cancel correctly. There is a guy selling replacement parts he 3D prints.

I'm restoring a 70 fastback...the switch that is in it is in pieces hanging from the column

That should be the same as a 68 to 70 beetle. As a 70 type 3 owner, about the only part I know of that's 1 year only is the wiper system (motor, arms, trans).

Went to the Pomona swap meet found 2 complete 1970 type 3 steering columns for 40 bucks

Good deal! It's worth taking the time to thoroughly clean and lube all parts so they don't self-destruct soon after installation. Adjust the turn signal switch carefully. 50 year old plastic is very brittle!
