Hi, I have just finished a top end rebuild and now I want to start up the engine on the floor. Therefore I put on the transmission. It all went ok, but I have a fear that there is something wrong with the new clutch assembly.
How much force would I need to apply to the clutch lever arm, to make it engage?? There is maybe 2-3cm freeplay, before the throw out bearing hits the fingers on the clutch plate.
The clutch is new and the flywheel came with the engine.
Could the flywheel depth be wrong? As I remember the depth was 21mm.
Any input would be great. First rebuild for me. _________________ Jakob |

I have never been able to actuate that style of pressure plate by hand. (But occasionally can disengage the 3-arm early style..) Remember the clutch pedal has something like a 10x multiplier built into the pivot due to the pedal lever and clevis hook lengths.
As far as how far the diaphragm fingers stick out, did you measure the thickness of your clutch disc before installation?

The diaphragm fingers look just fine for a new clutch, they will rise up as the clutch wears and once they touch the cover many tens of thousands of miles down the road the clutch will be done for.
As said above you don't have much mechanical advantage to move the lever without the 10x multiplying factor of the clutch pedal. You could use a 12" Cresent Wrench to get it to move if you want. |

Ok i see. Maybe i dident have to pull the tranny, as all seems in order.

When the tranny was on I took some pliers for leverage, and I managed to bent the arm a little bit... but I guess with the clutch cable it will be different. I hope... _________________ Jakob |

So if one wanted to fire up an engine out of the vehicle, essentially you just need a bell housing to mount the starter. Couldn't you just leave out the disk and pressure plate for engine testing purposes? |

I could, but I just found it easier to mount the tranny, as I don’t have a separate bellhousing. _________________ Jakob |
