Hey guys,
My oil pump housing on the third piece of my early 1957 356A T1 Normal is toast. Does anyone know which VW oil pump housing fits?
Thanks in advance.

No VW engines use an oil pump housing like that at all. The oil pump bolts directly to the case.
The pump slips into the case here:
And then a cover gets bolted over it:
Looking at some pics of the Porsche oil pump, it uses some special pump gears that aren’t the same as VW.
You have to get them from a Porsche specialist. Like this:

Here's a good read about using VW gears and what other people have done when the oil pump housing has low pressure problems like what you describe.
http://forum.porsche356registry.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22572 You will lose your tach drive though when using VW gears.
Hope that helps. I know it may be expensive if you don't want to separate a matching number 3 piece case. May be cheaper to find a better oil pump housing, and stash away the matching number one.
Edit: On a second look, the tang on your tach drive pump gear looks sheared off? You sure the housing is toast, or is it just the pump gear? Do you have long gear or short in that housing? If that is a 57' case, it should be a short gear.

The tang that is broken off is on the cam drive side.
He just needs to get the trashed oil pump out of his third case piece. Drill a bunch of holes in the pump housing to relieve the stress and it should be able to be knocked out with some gentle persuasion with a dead blow hammer
No idea which VW pump housing would fit though. _________________ Chris

Hey guys,
Sorry about no responses. Due to hurricane michael, our power has been spotty. You are right, the tang is broken. The pieces of the deteriorating housing clogged the gears splines and froze it up. When trying to turn it over with a wrench after 45 years of sitting, the tang broke. I now have new gears but need the oil pump housing. I was able to knock it out of the third piece yesterday. I have been told by quite a few Porsche guys that " very early VW housings will fit" but cant seem to find one.

This is a perfect example of the risks of what can be lurking in an engine that has sat for that many years. I would do a full tear down and inspect everything. The oil plugs need to be removed from the case so the oil galleys can be cleaned out. _________________ Chris

I've been told the same thing that early vw housings and early Porsche housings are the same. I'm actually using an early 356 Tachometer in an Oval window and needed the oil pump gears from a Porsche to utilize the tach drive. I'm still digging through housings to find one that fits. I have an Old stock Shadek pump that the gears fit in, but hang up when turning them. Housing is just a touch too tight.
I'll update this thread when I find a housing that works with the Porsche short gears.
Here is a whole set up
